Pimenta Cultural is a publishing house specializing in academic productions, focusing especially on the Capes Rules for good qualification of works in the Qualis Books stratum. We work hard to ensure the impact of published texts through indexing and metadata.

We publish: articles such as book chapters, research group reports, texts from postgraduate course papers, monographs, dissertations, theses, post-doctoral reports, among other academic texts.

The aim is to leverage the academic texts of our authors, expanding the reach of the public and the citations of their work by other authors. These actions aim to raise the H-index, i10-index and, in particular, disseminate the reach of research.

This is precisely why our eBooks are distributed free of charge and under Creative Commons licenses. This criterion alone gives the publication 5 points in the Qualis Books stratum.

Its editors are profa. Dr. Patricia Bieging and Prof. Dr. Raul Inácio Busarello. Both have extensive experience in publishing academic books in Brazil and abroad.

Most of our authors are masters and doctors from public and private universities. We have published texts and complete works by more than 5,000 authors and researchers from various universities in Brazil and abroad.

We publish: articles such as book chapters, research group reports, texts from postgraduate course papers, monographs, dissertations, theses, post-doctoral reports, among other academic texts.

We comply with all the Capes Rules for a good Qualis Books evaluation. We are Qualis L1 in the areas of Education and Environmental Sciences (with proof by report). We haven’t had access to the reports for the other areas, but we make a prediction based on the score for each criterion.

All of Pimenta Cultural’s works meet the requirements below, depending on the authors’ choice of one of our publication plans or special proposals:

Assignment of DOI by Crossref to the work (digital work only);
Assignment of DOI per chapter (organized digital work only);
ISBN for each format: printed and digital;
Publishing of the work in digital format (core and cover in color);
Adaptation of the digital work to the 14x21cm printed format (color cover and black and white core);
Catalogue by the Brazilian Book Chamber;
Cover design;
Title page;
Graphic design;
4th cover (back of the book where the synopsis appears);
Generation of a Remissive Index;
Internal links (digital work);
Inclusion of metadata, indexers and data programming (digital work).
The author will receive the eBook in his/her e-mail and will be able to share it widely and free of charge wherever and however he/she wants.

We deliver the publication of the work in 4 to 6 months at the most. For shorter deadlines, please contact us to check.

The digital books are published under the Creative Commons License (by-nc-nd) to increase sharing and access to the works. The books are open to the public and we distribute them for free on social networks, the Pimenta Cultural website, Google Book Academia.Edu, SlideShare and others. We also send them to more than 400 university libraries registered in our mailing list.

eBooks have a distinctive editorial and graphic design, and are not simply a PDF file. The digital works have metadata programming, indexing and internal navigation links that facilitate access to the chapters, as well as a table of contents and index.

The printed book is adapted to the 14x21cm format. However, we work with any type of format, the most common being: 16x23cm, 17x24cm, 21x28cm, 21.29.7cm and 25x30cm.

We have several calls for book chapters open every year. If your research adheres to one of the open calls, you can submit your text for peer review.

After peer review, we will send you the evaluators’ opinions with their notes. If adjustments are requested, the authors will have a few days to make the corrections and send us the finished text.

As soon as all the authors have sent us their final texts, we begin the editing process and, as soon as the layout is ready, the authors receive the proof by e-mail for a final check. Once all the chapters have been approved, the book will be finalized, registered, indexed and published.

We do not charge fees in advance, before the appraisal or unless we are sure that the work is viable. The publication fee is only paid at the end of the process and once the book is guaranteed to be viable. The publication fee is per chapter, not per author, and can be paid in two installments with no interest. If there is more than one author, they can share the single investment.

The Index is generated by the publisher when the book is finalized. You don’t need to do anything at all, we’ll take care of it. This index is a list of the main terms that appear in your text. We track the main words and then generate an automated list. The pages on which the term is cited by the author are listed next to the word. This index appears at the end of the book and is a way of making it easier for readers to find the book.

It is also one of Capes’ evaluation criteria in the Qualis Books stratum and is worth 5 points. In the digital work, the index has internal navigation links.

The PoD system allows books to be printed one by one from the moment of purchase and quickly. The biggest advantage for our authors is that their work never goes out of print. The price of the book is similar to that of physical and online bookstores. The production time of the work varies by up to 7 days from the order placed on our partners’ website. Both the author and the readers can purchase the work at any time from just one copy.

You can order at least 20 copies to be printed on the low print run system. In this case, we recommend that you place your order with us, as we will then place the order directly with the printer.

As a result, the unit value of the work can drop by around 50% or more depending on the quantity desired. We also print from one copy, but from a direct link to our supplier, with sales through marketplaces and printing and PoD.

Pimenta Cultural, or any other publisher, does not receive a Qualis Books classification, like scientific journals. Qualis Books is solely and exclusively directed at the book, it is an individual evaluation of the work itself. Nor can we say that the works published will have certain strata. The committees appointed by Capes, not the publishers, carry out the evaluations. What we can do are just simulations based on documents made available by Capes, based on compliance with the Quesitos and their indicators for assessing the quality of each work.

Some of the evaluation criteria are the responsibility of Pimenta Cultural, i.e. they are directly linked to our practices as an academic publisher. Other criteria are the responsibility of the authors when they report the publication of the work to the Graduate Programs. Finally, the Graduate Programs are responsible for submitting this information correctly and completely to the Sucupira Platform. Note that this is a production chain, involving three specific agents at different times and not one person directly responsible for the score achieved.

You can find a detailed explanation of the criteria and how book reviews work at this link: https://www.pimentacultural.com/post/regras-qualis-livros

We carefully comply with all the Capes rules so that the works published by Pimenta Cultural reach the highest possible stratum in Qualis Books. The expectation for the strata of our works is 88 points, i.e. Qualis L1.

The criteria and complete information on the Qualis Books score can be found at this link:

We work on all digital works with the programming of metadata, data internal to the work, which is responsible for better positioning of books in search systems.

The indexing of 100% open works in Google Books is essential and of great importance since it is one of the ways in which the publication indexes of research authors are counted.

By entering the data and the work into Google Books, we were able to activate mechanisms for evaluating and counting citations and the “h” and “i10” indexes. The H-index is an impact factor calculated according to the number of

articles published by the researcher. Thus, “when we say that a researcher’s H-index is ten, it means that they have at least ten published articles, each with at least ten citations. The greater the number of articles of great interest published by the researcher, the greater the number of citations

achieved, the higher its H-index will be, reflecting the academic-scientific quality of the researcher and their productive capacity” (TOMAZ, ASSAD, MOREIRA, 2011, online).1

The i10 index is an impact factor directly related to the H index and shows the published articles that have more than 10 citations each.

Google Books measures the impact of works and automatically calculates the i10 and h-indexes in the researcher’s Google Scholar profile. This index can be listed in the Curriculum Lattes in a specific field for this purpose. It is important that the researcher has his or her profile on the platform so that the indexes are computed correctly.

– Example of an indexed work.

1) Link to the book’s page on Google Books, containing: Title, authors’ names, summary, keyword cloud (very important for the work to be found by search engines around the world), ISBNs, ways of exporting citations by EndNote and others, QR Code:

We have more than 7.5 million views of our works on Google Books platforms alone. This metric refers only to views of the publisher’s distribution profile. Other distribution channels have not been added. Update: 28/01/2022.

We have the works indexed in several universities already confirmed, among them: FURB, PUC, Mackenzie University among others. We also index in international libraries. A few years ago the largest public university in Belgium started indexing our eBooks, Ghent University. The university was founded in 1817 and is listed among the best in the world, ranking 71st in the Academic Ranking of World Universities. shorturl.at/quDY9

Pimenta Cultural’s works are published in both digital and printed formats. In this way, two ISBNs (one for each format) are registered by the Brazilian Book Chamber. The book also has a catalog.

We use the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivatives 4.0 International License – CC BY-NC (CC BY-NC-ND) – which gives anyone the freedom to share and copy, while protecting their copyright. Although Creative Commons licenses allow the sharing and copying of works, the quotation of excerpts and respect for authorship are protected under the Copyright Law (Law 9.610/98). Article 46(III) states that “it does not constitute an offense to copyright to quote passages from any work in books, newspapers, magazines or any other means of communication, for the purposes of study, criticism or polemic, to the extent justified for the purpose to be achieved, indicating the name of the author and the origin of the work”.

Yes, we are affiliated with Crossref and we register DOIs by book and by chapter. The latter in the case of organized work.

DOI stands for Digital Object Identifier. It is a standard for identifying documents on digital networks. It’s a record for digital works. It is not possible to register a DOI for printed books.

The printed works published by Pimenta Cultural are distributed in national and international marketplaces.

In Brazil: Amazon, Americanas, Shoptime, Submarino, Mercado Livre, Casas Bahia, Extra, Ponto Frio, Estante Virtual, Magalu and Shopee.

Abroad: United States, Canada, England, Wales, Scotland, Continental Europe, Australia, New Zealand, Germany, Italy, Spain, Poland, Russia, South Korea, China and India.

The printed books are also sold by catalog in 72 physical bookstores around Brazil.

All printed works sold are printed in the PoD system, and the author does not have to pay for these prints. In this way, the number of printed books requested by the author will go directly to the author, who will be able to sell or donate them in any way they wish, without passing on any commission to the publisher.

We do not work with printed books in stock, the prints are only made by PoD.

The value of publishing a complete book, whether organized or authored, will depend on several factors. Ideally, you should contact us directly to assess the text.

We also have a basic promotional table so that authors can analyze and check the items they want for their book. These plans are basic and part of a standard procedure created by the Publisher to facilitate access to authors and reduce the amount to be invested.

Check out our plans by clicking here:

Our plans can be paid in up to 12 interest-free installments.
